⚠️ Peer Drug Alert ⚠️
🚨Fake Xanax tested positive for Fentanyl in Sydney 🚨

This anecdotal peer drug alert came to us via our network of DanceWize NSW peers. NSW Health has previously put out alerts for Fake Xanax & Fake Benzos (counterfeit benzodiazepines), but this is the first time we have heard of fakes containing an opioid like fentanyl in NSW. 😲 (Though it is becoming common in other countries)

Please note that fentanyl test strips can provide false positives and false negatives. It is also not known if there were any benzodiazepines (such as alprazolam) in the substance. As always, take care and use the harm reduction tips in the slides in this post to reduce possible adverse consequences.

Please like and share the post to spread the knowledge 🙏

If you have a peer report or need some support, pls DM us or contact NUAA's PeerLine: 1800 644 413

Peer Drug Alert

Fentanyl in Fake Xanax

--- Report from peer ---

Where: Sydney When: 29.11.2021

A peer noticed an unexpected adverse reaction from consuming a Fake Xanax bar. They used a fentanyl test strip to test a bar they had left. This test returned a positive indication for the presence of fentanyl.

Read on to find out more about the risks of fentanyl and how to keep yourself safe.

--- What are the risks and symptoms? ---

A single pill or line of powder containing opioids (such as fentanyl) can kill or cause: Dizziness, paleness, blurred vision, loss of consciousness, vomiting, difficulty breathing.

Risk of overdose is much higher if you aren’t a regular opioid user.

Risk of overdose increases drastically if you have been using other depressant drugs like alcohol, benzos, ketamine or GHB

--- How to protect yourself? ---

If you are using a new batch:

- Test it with a fentanyl test strip

- Test it with a reagent test kit

- Start out with a small dose and wait to see if it feels right.

Don’t use alone. Use a Zoom buddy or have someone on the phone with you. Make sure your friends know what you thought you were taking, and that they are comfortable calling an ambulance.

Opioid overdoses can be reversed by administering Naloxone, which is available free in NSW pharmacies and via NUAA’s NSP, in person or via discreet delivery.

(See the last tile for links to where you can get the things listed above)

--- How to get help? ---

If you see the warning signs of unexpected drug reactions or overdose:

Call Triple Zero (000)

Administer naloxone if you have any. (Repeated doses may be needed)

Start rescue breathing if someone is not breathing.
