DRUG ALERT

POPPY SEEDS POISONING

SEVERE NEGATIVE REACTIONS FROM COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE POPPY SEEDS

Suspected adulterant: Thebaine

A number of anecdotal reports of severe negative reactions including hospitalisation have been communicated from all around Australia from people who make & drink poppy tea or poppy wash from commercially available supermarket poppy seeds.

Please use EXTREME CAUTION - even if you are an experienced user.

Effects:

Thebaine poisoning can cause but is not limited to the following effects:

  • dizziness
  • sweating
  • nausea
  • muscle pain
  • muscle spasm and rigidity
  • seizures
  • cardiac arrest
  • death.
